How Mutations Work in Grow a Garden 2
Mutations are special states crops can enter during growth that dramatically increase sell value. Think of them as multipliers that can stack in specific ways. They're triggered by weather conditions, time of day, pet interactions, or special items.
There are two distinct categories: Variant Mutations (mutually exclusive—you pick one) and Environmental Mutations (stackable). Understanding which stack and which don't is literally the difference between thousands and billions of Sheckles per harvest.
Variant Mutations (Choose One)
🟢 Ripe
1x
The default state with no bonuses. Every crop starts here unless you actively trigger a variant.

5x
Achievable through Super Seeds or Silver Fertilizer. Occasionally spawns naturally but don't count on it.
🟡 Gold
20x
Extremely rare natural spawn. More reliably obtained via Gold Fertilizer or pets like Dragonfly, Cockatrice, or Golden Bee.
🌈 Rainbow
50x
The holy grail variant. Rainbow Fertilizer works, or use the Butterfly pet on a crop with 5+ environmental mutations (warning: removes those mutations).

Advanced Stacking Strategies
📊 The Math Behind Stacking
Environmental mutations multiply together. A crop with Wet (2x), Moonlit (3x), and Honey Glazed (5x) becomes 2 × 3 × 5 = 30x total. This stacks ON TOP of your variant mutation. Gold variant + those three environmentals = 20 × 30 = 600x base value.
💎 Optimal Combinations
Chase Gold variant (20x) + Shocked (100x) + any other environmentals you can stack. This creates multiplicative chaos in the best way. Late-game players with optimized pet setups routinely hit 1000x+ multipliers.
âš ï¸ Critical Mistakes to Avoid
Never use Butterfly to apply Rainbow (50x) unless you've done the math. It strips all environmental mutations, so you're trading a stacked environmental bonus for a flat 50x variant. Sometimes 5+ environmental muts exceed 50x value.
